Position Summary

The Buyer is responsible for the day-to-day management and requirements of finished goods from third party manufacturers for new and existing products, both domestically and internationally. This role will support all procurement activities such as obtaining and reviewing quotes, negotiating with suppliers, generating purchase orders, monitoring open orders and vendor performance. The Buyer will also provide support in sourcing initiatives and commodity strategies to identify suppliers, provide competitive pricing and implement effective sourcing tactics. This role will be responsible for supporting the needs of the business while delivering on service, quality and cost objectives.

 

Work Schedule: This position currently follows a hybrid work model. Employees are required to work from the office at least four days per week (Monday - Thursday), with Friday available for remote work, offering a blend of in-person collaboration and flexibility.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)

  • Support goals and objectives as established by Procurement Management, with emphasis on strategic third party manufacturing sourcing and alliances with suppliers.
  • Supplier Relationship Management: Cultivate positive relationships with vendors, evaluate vendor performance, and collaborate on mutually beneficial terms.
  • Ensure that finished goods, purchasing services and company operational needs are met, while considering price, quality and delivery for continuity of supply.
  • Perform market analysis and support vendor selection process for new vendors and recommend replacements for underperforming vendors.
  • Manage and control the bid process for finished goods, including RFQ/RFP negotiations of purchasing agreements with suppliers, contract negotiations and implementation of finished goods sourcing/buying programs.
  • Complete in-depth cost analysis to control costs and optimize business allocations; review, interpret and analyze cost proposals for Purchasing management evaluation.
  • Collaborate with several cross-functional teams, including but not limited to, Finance & Accounting, Legal, Facilities, IT, Operations, Marketing, and Events to implement best practices and streamline processes to support business initiatives.
  • Realize cost savings through developing and implementing category management techniques, applying sourcing strategies, supporting continuous improvement initiatives and executing cost savings projects, while maintaining high levels for service and quality.    
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement within the procurement function.

Minimum Qualifications (These are the requirements that all applicants MUST HAVE to be considered for this position)

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent related experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in a Purchasing environment with proven 2 years of buying experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in supplier qualification, supplier performance monitoring, and supplier relationship management.
  • Ability to leverage interpersonal skills to establish rapport and develop relationships with internal customers and colleagues, and external suppliers.
  • Strong project management skills, and ability to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Understanding of ERP software systems and processes.
  • Solid quantitative, analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Strong influencing, collaboration and relationship development skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or related field from an accredited institution.
  • 5 years of experience in a strategic sourcing or buying role.
  • Experience in a food, nutrition, or pharmaceutical ingredient sourcing or procurement role is highly preferred.
  • Professional experience in direct supplier negotiation, contract and vendor management and pricing/costs decisions.
  • Experience using Microsoft Dynamics AX.
